Coming Home is my first novel. It is based loosely on the experience of my mother, who came from California in the 1940s from Arkansas to live with her brother.
It is December 1943, in the midst of World War II and Jennie Jones is a seventeen year old girl living quietly with her mother in northwest Arkansas. Tragedy strikes when her mother is stricken with tuberculosis which requires a year of hospital treatment. Jennie must travel to California to stay with her brother, and God intervenes in her situation in the form of a young Marine, Sam Treadwell, who is en route to a holiday with his sister to be followed by deployment in the Pacific. Through his faith and encouragement, she is lifted out of her situation, and over the ensuing days, Jennie learns about the love and protecting hand of God, and learns to trust in Him as he changes her life, through new friends, prayer, faith and His unchanging Word.
